From Fred D. Thompson, in His Own Words:
Some people think that our planet is suffering from a fever. … NASA says the Martian South Pole’s ‘ice cap’ has been shrinking for three summers in a row. Maybe Mars got its fever from earth. If so, I guess Jupiter’s caught the same cold, because it’s warming up too, like Pluto. This has led some people, not necessarily scientists, to wonder if Mars and Jupiter, nonsignatories to the Kyoto Treaty, are actually inhabited by alien SUV-driving industrialists who run their airconditioning at 60 degrees and refuse to recycle.
This is the savior of the Republican party that many on the political right are having the vapors over as he prepares to enter the 2008 race.
Yowza.

I just wish that Sen. Thompson was as concerned about the inhabitants of Earth as he is about the inhabitants of Mars, Jupiter and Pluto. I am personally more worried about the warming here on Earth, especially with the hot air emanating from yet another politician. And the man seemed so down to earth. Well, except for that red pickup (at least it isn’t a Hummer). Still wishing for Pres. Carter to return.

Woodchuck: Oh, don’t get me started on the whole “why the hell didn’t we listen to Jimmy Carter when we had the chance???” thing. He was the very first person I ever voted for, and it pains me more than I can say that the US had a leader who correctly saw the ramifications of our energy situation and tried to do something about it, but was ignored or ridiculed.
Sometimes we get the government we deserve, and sometimes we’re lucky and get something better, even if we’re not bright enough to realize it at the time.

If you go back and look at a lot of the statements that Carter made, he was right on. They replayed an old tape of statements he made on Meet the Press decades ago about the middle east and they were so accurate that he could have said them yesterday.
Someone with that kind of vision should be appreciated. Instead we let the right wing call him a “hand wringer” and neurotic because he actually cared about the hostages and wanted to get them back. Leave it to the Republicans to ridicule someone that actually cares about other people…compassionate conservative…..pffft!
